Up to this order I had not made a Vee instrument since the late
70's when I made a guitar and a mandolin with this shape. It works
well for a bass although it is BIG. This one has a through neck
of maple laminates with carbon fibre inserts. The 'wings' are alder
to provide resonance and also keep the weight down. Fingerboard
is ebony and the whole package is finished in high gloss black lacquer.
The customer wanted EMG pickups with the EMG BQC System for the
active EQ (run on 18 volts for better headroom) and they work really
well together to give the typical EMG sound - clear and clean with
wide tonal range. The bridge is a Kahler 2450 and the machines are
Schaller.

The through neck and lack of horns means great access to the whole
fretboard - this is an easy bass to play (but not sitting down).
It is one of the great joys of being a custom maker that I get
the opportunity to build unusual instruments so thank you Heavy
Lady for this one. I don't imagine it will be used for jazz!

Gloss black instruments are really difficult to photograph as they
reflect everything and show every spec of dust so don't look too
closely at these pics!
