Brian knew exactly what he wanted and this is the guitar
that he designed from the ground up. The body shape (very
elegant and smaller than a Strat) is combined with an almost
retro look through neck and original design slanted
headstock. The fingerboard is quarter sawn bubinga which I
have never used in this way before and it works very well.
To facilitate fingering in the higher range Brian wanted
graduated fretting where the first 15 frets are high and
wide Dunlop 6100 and the final 9 are high and medium width
Dunlop 6105. The through neck is birdseye maple with walnut
veneer details and a insert of walnut on the front. Brian
wanted carbon fibre under the fingerboard for extra
stiffness. The body 'wings' are black korina which is very
lightweight and resonant as well being unusual. Pickups are
Seymour Duncan TB-4 and SH-2 with a Kinman Avn 2 in the
middle. This combination along with the 5 way switch and
single coil switching for the TB-4 makes for a very
versatile guitar that pretty well manages to do everything.
The position 2 'quack' is exceptional for a guitar with
humbuckers. The Schaller Lo Pro trem and mini machines in
chrome compliment the wood choices. Final touch is added by
the walnut back plates.
This is a completely unique instrument designed by a
player who was very sure of what he wanted. I don't think
Fender would do that for him.
One of the advantages of the through neck is the
unparalleled access to the higher frets thet the lack of
heel offers as you can see below.
