Daniel's nylon string. I don't make a 'classical' guitar as such with the traditional shape and construction so I call my version a nylon string guitar. The body shape is based on my smallest acoustic steel string (the ASAP) and I use a steelstring neck joint and a modified (and much lighter) X brace system under the top. Daniel wanted me to make him a nylon string to match his steel string ASAPJ that he had had for some years. Engelman top on Indian rosewood back and sides with a mahogany neck laminated with a 1cm strip of flamed maple and dimensioned exactly to match another classical guitar that he owns and was familiar with. Rosette was to be 1 cm solid inlay of mahogany. Ebony fingerboard, Rio bridge and Schaller machines. When I build a nylon string I taper the body front to back less than on my steel strings but still arch it slightly for tension. Unusually Daniel wanted a 14th fret neck joint. The finished item feels like a (very) lightweight steel string and has lovely tonal balance across the strings.

Daniel wrote to me after he received the guitar "Hi chris. I received the guitar and after playing a few hours i have to say: a dream came true:- it is is what I wanted (it is even closer)- it looks gorgeous (the neck is wonderful and the wood is very nice)- it plays perfect (even better than my takamine - really!!)- and most important: it sounds really fantastic! It could not be better. As we say: you hit the nail on the head. All I can say is: THANK YOU!!  daniel"

I am not sure how to take the reference to the Takemine but I guess it is positive!
