Subtle coloured 4B.

Bookmatched Irish walnut is the wood chosen for the top of this 4B. The colour changes from the golden brown of the central heartwood to the soft yellow-grey sapwood at the edges. The body core is alder and the fingerboard is rosewood both of which compliment these tones as does the gold Schaller hardware. The neck is made from laminates of maples with veneer details amd contains some carbon fibre. Finish is silk AC lacquer that allows the wood to 'glow'

This instrument was made for David who has previously owned the same bass for 30 years so he wanted something with a different sound and feel. The pickups are Larkin/Armstrong custom made. There is a humbucker with alnico magnet at the bridge and a single coil (with jazz bass voicing) at the neck. These are more widly spaced than normal to widen the frequency range and are wound specially to enhance this sound spectrum. The signal is passed through a Glockenklang 3 band active EQ with an added passive tone that is always in the circuit. Pulling the volume knob out creates a purely passive sound.

The result is simple instrument that has it's own clear voice but also can produce a wide range of sounds using the available circuitry.
