Longscale Jumbo. Del wanted a guitar with a big sound for dropped tunings so I built him this Jumbo. To prevent 'flappiness' on the bass strings I made it with a longscale (690mm/27.16") as requested which increases the string tension. He also wanted a 12th fret join so this meant pushing the soundhole and bridge back in the body which had the effect of 'opening' the sound of the instrument. He also wanted a Martin style slotted headstock (what was wrong with my design???) with ebony facing. Woods chosen were beautiful khaya mahogany for the back and sides with a creamy sitka top. Neck is a laminate of khaya and flamed maple with a pale Rio fingerboard to match the Rio bridge. Two other features were the fitting inside the soundhole of a Wittman tuner (visible only to the player and very useful on-stage - you can just see it at the lower part of the soundhole above) and the beautiful handmade Alessi machineheads. So we ended up with a very much custom guitar by re-jigging and adding to a basic model
